Digestive Health Tips

Be prepared. Know your symptoms (e.g., have they changed over time) and their severity. Remember when you had your last bowel movement. Think of any lifestyle changes you've made to reduce disruptive symptoms, such as abdominal bloating or discomfort. List other ways you've managed your symptoms (e.g., have you taken any treatments, did they provide relief). Additionally, list any questions you have about digestive health problems.

Take your time. Describe all of your symptoms in detail and be sure to ask all of your questions. Make sure you understand the information or instructions given to you.

Bring a friend or family member for support. He or she can help you recall information provided by your doctor.

Explore treatment options. Take charge of your digestive health. Be persistent and keep an ongoing dialogue with your doctor until you find a treatment option that works for you.
